Dadasaheb Phalke- The Father of Indian Cinema, was born in Marathi speaking Deshastha Brahmin family on 30 April 1870 at Tryambakeshwar, Nashik. He joined Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1985. After that he went to Kala Bhavan where he studied Sculpture, engineering, drawing, painting and photography. He was an Indian producer- director-screenwriter and known to be as the founding father of the Bollywood film industry. His debut film, Raja Harishchandra was known to be the first ever Indian film in the Indian film Industry. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour by the Government of India in 1969.
