Vastu Shastra is vast and ancient science of living. The word Vastu is derived from the root word ‘Vas’ which means ‘to reside’.
Vastu is not about architecture alone; it is much more than that. Vastu Shastra forms the foundation of Bhawan Sthapatya Kala which being the applied aspect of Atharvaveda, is an ancient science and one of the eminent pillars of our heritage. But just like our many traditions, Vastu too lost its importance in the wake of modern architectural styles and Western designs. For ages, the newer generations stayed ignorant of the importance of this science and hence couldn’t use it in the constructions of houses, buildings, shops, offices or industrial complexes. But that is changing with the awareness on Vastu and its benefits.
Vastu Shastra has a scientific and spiritual base. One must have faith in Vedas and God. When buildings are constructed keeping Vastu in mind, the members of the family tend to live healthier and happier, the employees and employers work in tandem while the businesses flourish.
If one adheres to the Panch Mahabhootas, while a house is under construction, and constructs the building according to the Vastu Shastra, the family lives in harmony and peace. The soul transfuses with mind, wisdom and ego in the body after it’s formed with the combination of the said five elements. Any irregularity in the balance of these elements makes the members of the family suffer. In addition to karmas in this life, two things — fate and Vastu — affect the life of a person. Each is responsible for much happiness in life. If Vastu is poor, the results as compared to efforts will be half even if the stars are exalted and the fate is very strong. As against this, if Vastu is right and the planetary position is unfavourable, then the ill-effect will not be so bad, as compared to when both are poor. This means that if a house or industry is constructed according to Vastu, man’s destiny may be changed for the better.
